So first off, I will be posting bi-weekly as of today on both my blog and coffee house writer page. I’ve been dealing with some writer’s block, and I think some of it has to do with trying to force something out every week. Plus quarter 4 is upon, so sooner or later the retail rush will follow. That said I didn’t want to keep not writing, so I settled on reviewing the 3 things I decided to watch on the plane to and from Florida.


Review 1: Amphibia
This is a TV show that’s been on my radar for a while, but ended up being something I just never got around to. I saw the 1st 2 two episodes were available, so I gave it a look. I have no idea what process Disney to pick up a creative, original show again, but I certainly don’t mind. There’s a ton of unique characters, most of them witty in their own way, and for a show about 3 girls trapped in some kind of weird frog dimension it’s been a pretty casual story so far. I suspect that’s getting close to changing, but in a way I’m looking forward too. Most of the TV series I’ve seen these days go from casual disconnected kid show to hard and fast epic joined together adventure. Amphibia is the first series I've seen to have a pretty good balance. There’s a lot of disconnected adventures, but they also occasionally mention older episodes.

Review 2 Knives Out: 
Knives out was a movie I had vaguely heard of. Were I not on a plane with limited options I might have skipped it all together. And sadly, I don’t think I would’ve missed much by doing so. I’d be remiss to not give the mystery movie some props for keeping me guessing, at least to some extent. But ultimately parts of the ending were spelled out long before the reveal, and the journey there is consistently interrupted. A comedy mystery could be an interesting concept, but you’d need more than the one note jokes this movie offers. The tone and plot line of Knives out is serious and suspenseful all the way through. Which leaves little room for jokes, and even less room for elementary school jokes produced by impossible character flaws. Overall it’s a decent plane movie, and probably not something I would’ve stopped playing on Netflix. Those more willing to let a few plot holes slide may even think it’s a great movie.  Overall however, the ending simply didn’t offer the pay off I was expecting.
