Rabbit Hole Carnival: Read the Room

Apologizes about the latest of this one. It was actually ready to go days ago. I'm on vacation, and completely lost track of time ^^; enjoy it anyways though!

“Weren’t you here with a girl last time?” Renee asked while serving a drink.

“We broke up. Not like anything I do is gonna last anyways.” Christopher said

“Maybe you’re looking in the wrong places.” Renee replied. “I certainly was for a while.”

“What? You?” Christopher chuckled. “Were looking in the wrong places?”

“If it’s that hard to believe then that's just the kind of difference. It can make.” Renee replied with a wink. “You’re right though. You two were never gonna fit.”

“Don’t ask.” Nick replied, as he walked in. “The answer won’t make any sense to you. She just knows those sorts of things.”

“Still no pumpkins, daddy?” Renee asked.

“No, we have plenty. That shipment finally came in today.” Nick said. “Nowhere near enough, but a few extra as thanks for being the place that wasn’t shouting at them over the phone.”

“Never did get why people do that.” Christopher replied. “Not gonna make anything work out faster.”
“You know I feel the same way when people come here to deal with their problems.” Renee said, as reach into a bag and pulled a pumpkin. “He's a Gobble Bobble person, store up the rest. I'll need this one tonight.”

“What does that mean?” Christopher asked.

“We've always been that kind of place.”  Nick replied. “People come, vent off their problems, and then feel bad about coming back. Yet that’s what a bar is here for, which is probably why they come back sometimes anyways.”

The bell rang again. “Renee?!” a girl said.

“Shocking Apple is coming with the next drink, Carol!” Renee replied. “Just hang out with the cute boy who just got dumped in the meantime!”

“Don’t mind if I do.” Carol replied, sitting right next to Christopher. “Name’s Carol, as you’ve guessed. What’s yours?”

“Uh… Christopher.” Christopher said.

“Chris, okay?” Carol asked.

“I.. guess.” Chris replied.

“Whatever made a girl dump you is gonna escape me until the end of time.” Carol replied.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t think I’m looking right now.” Chris said.

“Aww, why not?” Carol asked. “Renee here was for quite a while.”

“One Gobble Bobble, and one Shocking Apple.” Renee replied.

“Wait what does… what do both of them mean?” Chrisasked

“I suppose it’s about time I heard the story. ” Carol said. “And I remember our little deal, so me first. You just sort of showed up as far as I’m considered. Showed and made almost half of this menu., all the while Nick has a daughter now, which was new. But she was happy, happier than she had been in quite a while. And I was fine leaving that alone, and then she just haaaad to go making the first drink from here I love!”

“Mike, was always harsh. But he was especially harsh that night. I had to go somewhere that wasn’t there, and this was the only place that was on my mind. So this was where I knocked at like 3am that night.” Renee replied "Reconnected with old friends Made a few drinks. And well… I’ve just never really found a reason to leave. And then some mad lass came in like two weeks after all the chaos, and demanded the new drink.”

“Which I have loved ever since.” Carol replied, with a swig. “And what got this cutie looking so down?”

“Girls just don’t like shy boys I guess.” Christopher replied.

“Sweetheart, you were definitely looking in the wrong places.” Renee said.

“Cute, sweet, AND easy to tease.” Coral said. “Renee is asexual. She has her reasons, but I’m not letting walking out of here without planning a date.”

“You're free this time next week, right?” Renee asked. “What's wrong with meeting here?”

“I have a day to clear.” Carol kissed Chris on the cheek. “And I’ll see you next week~”
