Rabbit Hole Carnival: Care for Others

11/17/2024

I don’t normally do this or say this. I much prefer to leave the stories, especially the rabbit hole one up interruption. But this one I think I have to make an exception. This one is dedicated to those in fear right now. And a brief little reminder to those who apparently don’t get how a tariff  works. I’m how in the hell were you gonna get other countries to pay more to send what we want from them. Anyways if you weren't interested in politics, this might not be your story. If you were looking from a little hope.

“Welcome to the Rabbit Hole Carnival.” Renee said. “What drink will be your festival?”

Do you actually not know the answer to that question?” Mike asked.

“Actually. No I don’t.” Renee asked “We don’t serve anything that strong here. I can try to mix a few drinks and make it, but you never did teach me how to make them.”

“Don’t you think this tantrum has gone long enough?” Mike asked.

“Don’t you think this isn’t a tantrum anymore?” Renee replied. “Daddy?! Code pseudo-Anchor?! Just order something Mike. it’s not like it’ll kill you… unfortunately.”

“No.” Mike said. “You think you’re so good at this then—”

“Fine.” Renee replied, and walked back behind the bar, and back out. “One condition.”
“Do you normally serve on conditions?” Mike asked.

“On occasion.” Renee replied. “There’s near 5 actually. So are you listening or not?”

“You are far too spoiled of a child.” Mike replied. “Just serve it, and I’ll listen.”

Renee served it. “No you won’t.” She sighed. “You’ll claim to, and just not care again. Before you asked, because it does get to you. I've learned., and it will bug me that drink is that good.”

Mike took a swig, and then a chug “It’s alright. So about coming home.”

“I. Am. Home.” Renee said. “Whatever happens now after this mess of an election. Whatever happens after this, we will still be here. I’ve seen it far too many times. Heard far too many even just this week.”

“And what are you gonna do when they close this place?” Mike asked.

“I’ve moved before, Mike.” Nick replied, coming down the stairs. “I can move again. Renee will and is more than welcome to follow.”

“Will follow.” Renee said. “If that is what it takes to stay here, then so be it. We have a few places in mind.”

“So giving up?” Mike asked. “See? This is why we said you’d never amount to anything.”

“And that is why—” Nick began.

“Daddy.” Renee said. “It’s fine. I didn’t amount to anything. You trained me too for a lot of years, but got out anyway. And It took a while to see that, but I’ve seen now. I’ve been holding back, and you told me. So go ahead, beat up the scapegoat one more time, but just be aware that there’s a lot more than you think.”

“To do what?” Mike says. “If the law votes this bar down then what?”

“A new prohibition?” Renee replied. “You serious don’t think we can’t turn this place into a speakeasy?”

“It wouldn’t even be that hard really.” Nick said. “And Renee is really pro that options

“Renee is a child!” Mike said . “At the end of the day. She knows nothing about how this goes.”

“Due to you, Renee has been taught a lot more than you would ever notice.” Nick said. “No actually scratched that. Due to me Renee’s been tuaght more than you think, and that is not things she lately takes lightly.”

“No you listen to this, Mike.” Renee said.”This is important.”

“Renee stumbled in here, crying before she was even of age,” Nick replied. “That is not something to just be ignored. Especially when she picks things up as fast as she has. She is from you and my sister in law, so she is not going anywhere. And if you think I can’t or won’t fight tooth and nail to keep that way, you need to think again.”

“You can keep your drink.” Renee said, flipping her hair out of her face. “But don’t come back. Just. for your kind we are officially closed.
